Michael Cohen resigns from post as deputy chair of RNC Finance Committee

Michael Cohen, the beleaguered former individual attorney for President Trump, has stepped down from his post as deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee&rsquos Finance Committee amid the ongoing federal investigation into his enterprise dealings.

In a letter to RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, Cohen cited the ongoing investigation by Unique Counsel Robert Mueller and one particular by the Southern District of New York as motives for his resignation. An RNC official confirmed the content of the letter to Fox News.

Cohen on Tuesday hired New York lawyer Guy Petrillo to represent him in a federal investigation into his enterprise dealings.

Earlier this week, a federal judge denied porn actress Stormy Daniels’ request to reconsider delaying her legal fight against Cohen and President Trump.

U.S. District Judge S. James Otero’s choice came weeks following Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenatti, argued that the judge should reconsider his order from April delaying the case and force Trump to answer queries beneath oath and enable him to get documents in the lawsuit.

Cohen sought a delay in the case right after his property and office have been raided by the FBI in April. The agents had been seeking records about the nondisclosure agreement that Daniels had signed, amongst other items. Cohen argued the criminal investigation overlaps with troubles in the lawsuit and his appropriate against self-incrimination could be adversely affected simply because he won’t be in a position to respond and defend himself.
