A man targeted youngsters attending a 3-year-old&rsquos birthday celebration in the course of a stabbing spree that wounded nine people at an apartment complicated in Idaho on Saturday evening, the police stated.

The man, identified as Timmy Kinner, 30, had returned to the complex, Wylie Street Station Apartments, around eight:45 p.m. on Saturday, a day after he was asked to leave the house because of his behavior, William L. Bones, the police chief in Boise, Idaho, stated at a news conference on Sunday.

Mr. Kinner began attacking the youngsters with a knife, said Chief Bones, who was visibly emotional as he described a scene of victims scattered across the apartment complicated, in the street and on the walkway.

Amongst the victims, he stated, were the three-year-old who was celebrating her birthday, two four-year-olds, a six-year-old, an eight-year-old and a 12-year-old. The 3 other victims have been adults who tried to intervene. 4 victims received life-threatening injuries.

&ldquoThis was an attack against those who are most vulnerable, our young children,&rdquo Chief Bones stated. &ldquoIt&rsquos untenable, it&rsquos unconscionable. It&rsquos pure evil in my thoughts.&rdquo

The birthday party, which was comprehensive with cake and decorations, was held outdoors in an area that was accessible to the public, the police mentioned.

Mr. Kinner has not cooperated with officials so the motive of his attack remained unclear.

The complex is property to some refugees and the stabbing victims were from Ethiopia, Iraq and Syria, the police mentioned. Chief Bones stated there was no evidence that the attack was a hate crime.

The refugee community at the complicated reacted with worry and horror, said Julianne Donnelly Tzul, executive director of the International Rescue Committee in Boise, a humanitarian organization. &ldquoIt was quite violent and quite frightening and there&rsquos a whole lot of trauma and hurt right now,&rdquo she said.

Mr. Kinner, of Los Angeles, was charged with several felony counts of battery and injury to a kid.

Mr. Kinner has an in depth criminal history spanning a number of states, which includes a prison sentence in Kentucky, Chief Bones mentioned, without elaboration.

A resident of the complicated allowed Mr. Kinner to stay at her apartment following he stated he required a place to go, Chief Bones said.

Mr. Kinner was asked to leave on Friday simply because of his behavior and he did so peacefully at the time, he stated. It was not right away clear what occurred prior to he was asked to leave.

Mr. Kinner&rsquos return to the complicated on Saturday night was about in search of vengeance, Chief Bones said. Mr. Kinner targeted the young children just before adults at the celebration intervened.

Chief Bones told The Idaho Statesman, &ldquoWe haven&rsquot had something involving this amount of victims in a single act in Boise in the history of the department.&rdquo

Bill Sifford, a resident of Boise for 29 years, said he was operating in his backyard when he heard sirens. Mr. Sifford, who lives down the street from the apartments, said the sirens have been a surprise because there is hardly ever a police presence there.

&ldquoEverybody&rsquos kind of in shock,&rdquo Mr. Sifford stated. &ldquoThis is a neighbor-assist-neighbor neighborhood.&rdquo

The International Rescue Committee in Boise mentioned in a statement that it was operating with nearby organizations to offer counseling and assistance to refugees living in the city. The organization also helped fund travel for an interpreter and one particular kid&rsquos parent to Salt Lake City, where the youngster was flown for medical care.

&ldquoIt is heartbreaking to know that people and children who fled horror of war and conflict to discover security in America and the Boise neighborhood had to expertise violence all over once again,&rdquo Ms. Tzul said.
