Lisa Web page &#039cooperative,&#039 &#039credible,&#039 lawmakers say soon after five-hour closed-door session

Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page was &ldquocooperative&rdquo and &quotcredible&quot in a closed-door session Friday with choose Residence committee members that lasted practically 5 hours.

U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., had been among Page&rsquos harshest critics heading into the session, but he said her cooperation &ldquospeaks effectively of her,&rdquo according to the Hill.

Meadows said he thinks the American people &ldquowould be content&rdquo with Friday&rsquos transcribed interviews, the Washington Post reported.

&ldquoShe&rsquos been prepared to support in the spirit of transparency. &hellip We&rsquove surely learned added things right now,&rdquo Meadows mentioned. &nbsp

The GOP-led probe is a joint investigation run by the chairmen of the Home Judiciary and Oversight committees.

Web page, who defied a subpoena Wednesday, would have been held in contempt of Congress had she not appeared at Friday’s session, lawmakers stated.

In the private testimony, she primarily answered queries about text messages with Peter Strzok that allegedly showed bias against then-candidate Donald Trump, the New York Post reported.

Meadows called Page a &ldquocredible witness,&rdquo as he walked out of the hearing, the report stated.

&ldquoThere is new data,&rdquo he told reporters. &ldquoAnd that information is credible.&rdquo

&ldquoShe&rsquos doing her very best to help us find the truth and I think in techniques she&rsquos been falsely accused of not becoming willing to cooperate.&quot

U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, was much more concerned with corroborating Page&rsquos account with that of Strzok.

&ldquoThe overriding situation for us nowadays is, will her testimony match up with his testimony?&rdquo Ratcliffe stated, according to the Hill.

A Democratic congressional supply told the Hill that two hours into the interview, Web page did not appear to have contradicted Strzok’s testimony in any way.

Lawmakers would not speak about the content material of the session, but they believed a transcript of the interview ought to be made public, the New York Post reported.

U.S. Rep.&nbspMatt Gaetz, R-Fla., a frequent and vocal critic of the FBI, questioned the bureau&rsquos presence at the private testimony.

&ldquoLisa Page is not an FBI employee, but the FBI was right here supplying counsel and providing her direction as to which queries to answer or not answer and there is a query as to the propriety of that before the Home,&rdquo Gaetz stated, according to the Hill.

But he stated he also identified Web page to be &ldquomore credible&rdquo than Strzok, the New York Post reported. &nbsp

&ldquoI didn&rsquot agree with her characterization of every text message and each piece of evidence,&rdquo Gaetz mentioned as he left the Residence hearing. &ldquoBut we did not see the smug attitude from Lisa Web page that we saw from Peter Strzok.&rdquo

Page did not answer any reporters’ concerns as she walked out of the session. She is due back Monday afternoon for an additional closed-door testimony, the Washington Post reported.&nbsp

The exact same Democratic congressional source told the Hill that Web page appeared &ldquoless assertive and confident&rdquo in her answers than Strzok was.

Because the probe is led by GOP members, Democrats see it as a &ldquopartisan sham,&rdquo the Hill reported, developed to undermine Particular Counsel&nbspRobert Mueller&rsquos investigation into possible collusion between the&nbspTrump campaign&nbspand&nbspRussia in the 2016 election.
