Kathak-Flamenco Collaboration

Kathak-Flamenco Collaboration

Lexi Allen and Madhuri Nair collaborate on a piece emphasizing the similarities among Kathak and Flamenco dance. This is their second practice, and the final product will be performed at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center on July 30th in ‘Noche Andaluza” presented by Reflejos Flamencos for Summer season Stage 2011.

    There are a bunch of videos showing a Flamenco-Kathak collaboration, but this one showed due to the dance being slowly all those similarities and differences of both dances.

    This is the mother and daughter of the same genre. Flamenco has of course incorporated some african rhythms in spain in a reverse influence from latin america, I could tell the indian girl was a bit off when the second beat came on. That rhythm is there in the subcontinent too, just at the folk level not classical
