Busboy who held dying Robert F. Kennedy reveals senator&#039s last words

Roughly 50 years soon after the death of Robert F. Kennedy, the busboy who held the dying senator detailed his last words in a Friday report.

Juan Romero, who was 17 throughout the 1968 incident, was functioning on that early June night when the presidential hopeful made remarks at the Ambassador Hotel, he recalled in the course of an interview with StoryCorps, according to NPR.

Soon after Kennedy spoke, he was reportedly ushered through the hotel&rsquos kitchen, where he paused to greet staff, including Romero.

&quotI keep in mind extending my hand as far as I could, and then I remember him shaking my hand,&quot Romero reportedly said throughout the interview. &quotAnd as he let go, somebody shot him.&quot

Romero, now 67, recalled Kennedy’s final words.

&ldquoIs everyone OK?&rdquo he asked, to which Romero mentioned he replied, &ldquoYes&rdquo before cushioning the senator&rsquos head with his hands.

&quotI could feel a steady stream of blood coming through my fingers,&quot Romero reportedly mentioned. &quotI don’t forget I had a rosary in my shirt pocket and I took it out, thinking that he would need it a lot a lot more than me. I wrapped it around his correct hand and then they wheeled him away.&quot

The following day, Romero recalled sitting on a bus near a woman who recognized him from a photo of the incident in the newspaper, the report stated. Following which, he reportedly remembered &ldquolooking at my hands and there was dried blood in in between my nails.&rdquo

Romero also detailed his 1st interaction with the senator, which he said took place a day ahead of he was shot. Kennedy was reportedly making a phone contact when the busboy and an additional employee arrived with space service.

&quotHe put down the telephone and says, ‘Come on in, boys,’&quot Romero stated, according to the report. &quotYou could tell when he was seeking at you that he’s not seeking via you &mdash he’s taking you into account. And I keep in mind walking out of there like I was 10 feet tall.&quot

That feeling reportedly stuck with Romero as the years passed. For the duration of the interview, he recalled purchasing a new suit and going to Kennedy’s burial site to supply his respects in 2010.

&quotWhen I wore the suit and I stood in front of his grave, I felt a small bit like that 1st day that I met him,&rdquo Romero reportedly mentioned. &ldquoI felt essential. I felt American. And I felt good.&quot
